FRENCH LANGUAGE BOOK. In this third volume of his series on the assault guns of the Waffen-SS, Pierre Tiquet examines three divisional units that were deployed in often secondary theatres of war: two mountain divisions - the 6th and 7th and a cavalry division - the 8th. They are not so much in the spotlight, but they are interesting nonetheless and were confronted with stubborn fighting.

As the "Nord" was mainly deployed on the inhospitable front in Lapland, its assault guns had only limited possibilities for use there, as they were little suited to the terrain in the far north. The SS division "Prinz Eugen", also a mountain division, was mainly used in the Yugoslavian mountains against Tito's partisans, although its Sturmgeschütz 40 battery in Serbia also fought against the Red Army. Finally, mention is made of the assault guns of the SS Cavalry Division "Florian Geyer", which were also used extensively in partisan fighting before being used against the Soviets in Ukraine, Transylvania and in the terrible encirclement battle for Budapest. The author also highlights the general deployment of each division with largely unpublished photographs and unique reportage, and also covers the tank destroyer and battle tank formations. The book is enriched with colour maps and vehicle profiles, but also with precise and documented biographies of several emblematic figures of these three Waffen SS units - Matthias Kleinheisterkamp, Otto Kumm or Hermann Fegelein.
