French Language book. From the autumn of 1939 to the summer of 1940, the Panzers soared from victory to victory, crushing all resistance in their path. German propaganda and its most famous generals narrated these moments of warlike delight like a military promenade, denying even the vanquished recognition for their valiant sacrifices. The archives of Berlin units and offices shed light on the part of history they had deliberately concealed. The Panzers suffered the brunt of the battle in Poland, suffering 30% losses. These were technical details that generals, initially sceptical of the Panzers' potential, chose to ignore in the euphoria of the moment. With his dual perspective as a historian and engineer, the author provides a new key to understanding these early German successes. After describing the tactical functioning of German armoured units in the first volume, Hugues Wenkin makes understandable the thousands of pages of German documents that until then remained opaque to historians who did not master the technical vision of the equipment and its maintenance. This Panzerwaffe Volume 2 offers a resolutely different perspective, explaining in particular the incomprehensible halt of the Panzers before Dunkirk. With a return to primary sources, he sweeps away the smokescreen erected by Goebbels' propaganda hiding the Achilles heel of the powerful Panzers of the Third Reich.
