French Language book. The appearance of the Leclerc tanks during the National Day parades is always an event, as much for the spectators as for the men who operate these steel monsters. With its machines, each more impressive than the last, the Armoured and Cavalry Army has been one of the major components of the Army since the Second World War. Officially born in North Africa in 1943, the “ABC” has since distinguished itself on all battlefields, and particularly during the Liberation. But the first French armoured units saw the light of day during the Great War, and the decades 1920-1930 were very important for their development... until the disaster of May-June 1940. Since 1945, the Armoured and Cavalry Army has suffered from numerous overhauls, both doctrinal and material, but still remains the spearhead of the French Army. Colonel (ER) Pesqueur, head of GE 501 between 2004 and 2006, looks back on the History of the “ABC”, from its origins to the present day!
