This volume bringing the secrets of metallic painting closer to miniature painters and wargame enthusiasts through clear examples, useful tips, and step-by-step tutorials. The book introduces the fundamentals of True Metallic Metal, explains how the BSL system (Base, Shade, Light) is applied to metallic paints, and develops the principles of volumetry and lighting, establishing a solid foundation for any painter seeking more controlled, expressive, and consistent results. It also delves into colour theory applied to metallics, chromatic harmony, and contrast, offering practical tools to understand how each colour choice influences the final appearance of a model painted with metallic tones.
Throughout its pages, readers will find recommendations on tools, brush use, basic techniques, and specific airbrush techniques, along with numerous insights drawn from the authors’ professional experience. At the heart of the book is a detailed exploration of the chromatic families of the True Metallic Metal range: Yellow, Orange, Red, Magenta, Violet, Blue, Turquoise, Green, Bronze, Gold, and Silver. Each chapter analyses the behaviour of each family, its visual properties, its relationship with light, and the most effective combinations for achieving volume, tonal richness, and coherence in the application of the BSL system. This approach makes the book the ideal guide to getting the most out of Vallejo’s True Metallic Metal range. The content is completed with a section dedicated to weathering effects and combinations with other paint ranges, expanding the painter’s creative and expressive possibilities. The book concludes with a complete step-by-step guide to painting the figure Elysia, demonstrating the application of the TMM method from the earliest stages through to the final finish, integrating technique, artistic judgment, and visual storytelling.
