FRENCH LANGUAGE Book. Do we remember that Georges Latil, thanks to his invention patented in 1897, was the precursor of the famous "front-wheel drive"? At the dawn of the automobile, the formula had a modest objective: to transform a horse-drawn vehicle by replacing its team of horses with a front-wheel drive that powered the front wheels, which, while remaining steered, became driven. This simple and ingenious invention would establish the manufacturer's reputation, supplying nearly three thousand Latil TAR "full-grip" artillery tractors (four-wheel drive, all-steered) during the Great War. Then, after the victory, the Suresnes-based manufacturer continued to develop, improve, and modernize its flagship model, while expanding its range, both with all-wheel drive tractors and conventional road vehicles of all tonnages. Although relatively modest in terms of quantity, Latil production is so rich in military models and versions that it requires two volumes of our collection to be covered in its entirety. In this first opus, we have chosen to present the entire TAR family, including its little brother the TP tractor-trailer, but also all the trucks and vans that served under the flag from the dawn of the 20th century until the armistice of June 1940.
