FRENCH LANGAUGE BOOK: Since the publication of Volume I of the Collector's Guide, its success and the numerous contacts it allowed me to make with other enthusiasts around the world have inspired me to expand upon this initial work. This second volume therefore includes a vast majority of new material, particularly concerning the induction and training of recruits, WACs (Warrior Action Corps), the medical corps, chaplains, military police, communications, and the personal effects of the GI. Some chapters, such as those on uniforms and equipment, are now comprehensive thanks to the additions in this Volume II. I hope you enjoy reading it and invite you to revisit the preface of the first volume; my approach to the subject remains the same. Passionate about my country's history since my youth, I became interested in the Second World War and, more specifically, the American military, fascinated by the enormous resources it could deploy to achieve victory. This army provided each of its soldiers not only with state-of-the-art equipment and uniforms suited to every situation, but also with their favourite drink or snack. I began my collection in the early 1980s, focusing on acquiring pieces in excellent condition, still bearing their markings which provided valuable information about manufacturing dates and various models. At that time, my only documentation was a photocopy of the 1943 Quartermaster Supply CatLog 1, but in the last twenty years, numerous books and articles in specialized magazines have been published. In this book, I have tried to gather as much information as possible on the equipment of the American soldier in Europe during the Second World War, without claiming to be exhaustive and fully aware that future research will reveal a great deal more information. The aim of this book is also to help enthusiasts in their search for authentic pieces in a collectors' market flooded with copies, including those from recent Hollywood productions. I hope to finally inspire young collectors to perpetuate the memory of these men who fought for the liberation of Europe.
