When it was established alongside the United States Air Force in 1947, the Air National Guard consisted of a colourful mix of World War II veterans and a dubious collection of flyable storage aircraft, mostly obsolete. Four years later, it was mobilized for the Korean War, which, after producing a handful of National Air Guard jet aces, precipitated an influx of new equipment for the unit. The Air Guard had entered the Jet Age, an era in which it truly belonged, and began entering air races and aerobatic competitions, winning public appeal as an elite unit with crack pilots and state-of-the-art jet aircraft.
This book is a detailed history of the first two decades of the Air National Guard as it evolved from a post-war hometown flying club for World War II veterans to a critical operational force integral to U.S. aerial strength. It uncovers the dramatic stories of the combat aces and record-breaking jet racers, as well as the pioneers who established the Air Guard on a wing and a prayer, and those who moulded it into a first-rate fighting force.

UK STANDARD DELIVERY

A standard delivery charge is applied to the majority of UK post codes, but remote areas and islands may incur a higher charge. We aim to deliver your order within 5-7 days, delivery times stated are an indication only, we often find deliveries are much quicker than estimated.

Where available Priority Plus is offered to UK orders at checkout.
Priority orders are prioritised throughout the dispatch process, picked first and sent via RM24 Tracked. Royal Mail do not guarantee delivery times, but orders placed this way tend to arrive substantially quicker than standard.
INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY
Once items are placed in your basket, the website will calculate the delivery charge for your order, dependent on country, and any surcharges we would be charged within the UK at the point of despatch. This does not include any charges made in the country of delivery at the time of delivery. We aim to deliver your order within the delivery times stated, Europe 7-10 days, Worldwide, 15-20 days, these are provided as an indication only, we often find deliveries are much quicker than estimated.
