Confined mainly to an auxiliary support role during the interwar period, the tank proved to be, during the Second World War, a machine of great flexibility of use. Used in turn as a breakthrough, exploitation, support, counter-attack weapon, even as a mobile artillery platform, it has become, over the course of operations, an essential player on the battlefield, same title as artillery and aviation. In expanding its tactical repertoire, the tank also gradually appeared as the best antidote against itself. Over the course of the military campaigns, battles between tanks have thus multiplied, even giving rise, on certain occasions, to real battles opposing several dozen or even hundreds of armoured vehicles. These are these anthology confrontations, ten of the most emblematic of the conflict in this case, which are the subject of this book. In a unique format in French, it sets out, for each of them, its operational context, the forces involved, the course of the actual fighting as well as its outcome for both sides. From the first mechanized shock of the war in Hannut in May 1940 to the final German-Soviet armoured clashes on the plains of Hungary in 1944-1945, the battles are treated chronologically in order to better understand the evolution of tactical processes and the progress of technology. From time to time, boxes draw up a comparison between two emblematic machines of the confrontation discussed or enlighten the reader on a significant parameter for its unfolding.
