French Language Book. Made famous by the films Apocalypse Now, Platoon or We Were Soldiers, the Huey was the real workhorse of the US Army during the Cold War. The result of a research program in the mid-1950s for a heavier and more robust helicopter than those hitherto aligned by the US Army, it was at the beginning of the 1960s that the first examples entered service in the States. This helicopter, initially intended for medical evacuations, turns out in fact to be so robust that Washington decides to adapt it in several versions, while the USMC and the US Air Force decide in turn to order copies of the device manufactured by Bell. But it was during the Vietnam War that the Huey will experience its baptism of fire.
