Olympic Airways: A History
83536AVI
The Olympic Airways story has a fascinating history. It is a story of evolution, conflict, personality and politics, all set against a backdrop of world and civil wars, coups and counter-coups. Although almost everyone had heard of the towering, controversial, leading figurehead who oversaw much of the central part of the story: Aristotle Socrates Onassis. His colourful life is threaded through this history, lending it drama and multiple levels of intrigue. The airline's story cannot be told in isolation. Olympic did not spring fully formed into being in 1957. The named company may have come into being then, but its roots were set much further back in history through a number of predecessor airlines - both national and international - who had been using the Hellenic Republic and Athina as the crossroads of the air for the Eastern Mediterranean since the dawn of aviation.

Polish Wings 25: Fokker E.V/D. VIII
58259AVI
This new book in the popular Polish Wings series tells the story of the famous German parasol-winged WWI fighter monoplane in Polish Air Force service. The Polish Air Force captured 17 of these Fokkers, but only seven (six E.V and one D.VIII) were in airworthy condition. All were used against Bolshevik forces in the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1920. Lieutenant Stefan Stec earned the first kill for the Polish Air Force, by shooting down a Ukrainian Nieuport fighter on 29 April 1919. In 1921, the remaining Fokkers were withdrawn from front-line units and transferred to the Szkola Obslugi Lotniczej (Air Personnel School) at Poznan-Lawica airfield. The book includes over 120 photographs and nearly 30 colour plates to profusely illustrate these aircraft.

Junkers Ju 52/3m Success beyond the Lu
74430AVI
The three-engined Ju 52/3m is one of few aircraft that can lay claim to 50 years of active service, with a few still flying, demonstrating not only its longevity, but also the soundness of its design and construction. While fulfilling the Luftwaffe's operational strategies it also served major commercial air routes in many parts of the world and was also adapted for many other missions. Production was re-activated after the war in France and Spain, and a total of almost 5,400 were built. This book will provide the reader with deep insight into the design, construction and operation of aircraft that have contributed greatly to the development of aviation. More than forty years of gathering information and in-depth research will provide the reader with a wealth of data, photographs, and colour drawings of the iconic Ju 52/3m.

The Aviation Historian Issue 26
TAH26AVI
Demonstrating the astonishing pace at which technology moved in the “Century of Aviation”, 2019 marks 50 years since the first flight of Concorde, which regularly retraced Alcock and Brown’s transatlantic steps in little more than 3hr. And that’s not to mention mankind finally reaching the Moon in July 1969. With so much to celebrate – and so much still to explore – let’s get going with this first 2019 edition of The Aviation Historian, our 26th quarterly issue! It contains its own celebratory flourish, in the shape of a double gatefold which opens out to reveal details of the RAF Far East Flight’s tour to Australia in 1927–28. Our cover story this time features test pilot Wg Cdr James Addams. Never heard of him? That’s because he was a rare beast – a Brit who was posted to California in 1938 and played a major role in evaluating American aircraft for possible adoption by the RAF. Matt Bearman describes how he was instrumental in rejecting the Lockheed P-38 Lightning for British use.

The Weathering Aircraft 11 Embarked
AMIG5211
The Weathering Aircraft, your favorite publication focused on painting techniques and ageing of aircraft presents its tenth issue. In this issue, we focus on how to improve and paint the armament of our planes, a critical element that is often overlooked by modelers. In this issue, world-class modelers finish all types of weapons with a multitude of techniques such as washing and paneling, and the use of Oilbrushers and pigments. The authors also explore in detail, how to integrate the weapons that accompany each subject so that they have the same degree of wear or different weathering in those cases that require it. TWA covers all time periods and armament types ranging from a machine gun mounted on a World War I airframe to modern cruise missiles, including both air-to-air and ground attack weapons. As always, TWA features the best collaborators, each providing you with inspiration and new techniques for your next project.
