A History of British Waterplanes: Flyi
37976AVI
A new word ‘Waterplanes&rsquos; to denote the flying machines that took off and landed on water as listed in the sub-title. Although they played an important role in defence, communication, freight transport and early civil aviation hardly any trace of them remains today. Aircraft were not preserved and these fine craft have no museum of their own. The author wants this book to deal with the subject comprehensively. Starting with the early machines of 1909/10 and ending with the post-war period and the subsequent decline. ‘Whitehall decision-makers...who had difficulty understanding how things flew’ get a bit of a pasting from the author whose text is in his usual style. A massive appendix details the people and the makers involved and the book is fully indexed as well as being profusely illustrated with ‘amazing photographs’.

British Secret Projects 3 Fighters 1935-
09174AVI
Volume Three (Fighters 1935 to 1950) with this book covering fighters. This book describes the design and development of the British fighter from the end of the biplane fighter to the start of the jet era. The projects and programmes which feature in its pages begin with those prepared in the mid-1930s in the knowledge that war was coming and go through to some which appeared after the war had ended. During this period the art of fighter design took some big and important steps forward. You will find, fixed-gun fighters and turret fighters, in both single and twin-engine form, plus the first generation of jet fighters. Types designed to meet the requirements of both the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm. Included the Folland Fo.118 and the Westland P.13. The author has undertaken extensive research and made full use of primary source material. Three-view drawings plus photographs of models or original artist’s impressions combine to show how these un-built designs would have appeared. Data and appendices summarise the projects, contracts and specifications and provide a detailed insight into many fascinating aircraft.

Latin America At War 9 Mexicans at W
90069AVI
This book introduces the reader to an unknown Ally of the Second World War. Few people remember that Mexico, took an active part in that conflict. This volume covers Mexican participation in the Second World War for the first time using photos, documents and testimony from official and personal archives. Following the sinking of Mexican ships by German u-boats the first North American Texan armed trainers entered service in the Gulf of Mexico, earning the title of the "Mexican Dive Bomber". Due to the necessities of the war, the service had to reorganize its aviation assets to be able to receive a larger number of American-built lease aircraft, which started the modernization and reorganization process that is felt even today. The war affected all aspect of Mexican military aviation from tactical units, to training, to logistics and military doctrine. As Mexico was securing its coasts and sending aviation personnel to train in the USA, it would later field its fighter squadron to participate in the liberation of the Philippine islands. By the end of the war the Mexican air force had experienced its most rapid growth since it was officially established back in February 1915. The text is fully supported by numerous previously unpublished photographs and colour profiles showing camouflage and markings.
