Devon At War
40855AVI
he county of Devon is said to have been the most militarily active county in England during the course of the Second World War. Devon At War can claim to be one of the few books that fully covers events on the Home Front during the war years, setting them against the ebb and flow of the conflict between the Allied and Axis forces. From Plymouth sailed Royal Navy warships that were to take part in epic sea battles. On Devon’s beaches were trained the men of the Allied armies who took part in the D-Day invasion of 6 June 1944, including tens of thousands of American troops who sailed from Devon’s ports.

These airfields continue to hold a fascination for many thousands who visit the area each year in search of this aspect of our military heritage.

Air Combat : Dogfights of World War%
36762AVI
The battle for the skies in World War II fuelled a race between rival air forces to develop ever faster and more capable fighter aircraft - and the struggle for air superiority was never over until the war itself ended. This volume explores four clashes of some of the finest planes and pilots, in key theatres of the war: Spitfires duelling the formidable Bf 109 over the Channel, the Fw 190 battling the Soviet La 5 and 7 on the Eastern Front, the F4F Wildcat in a desperate clash with the legendary A6M Zero-sen, and the F4U Corsair in combat with the second-generation Japanese Ki-84 in the closing days of the war. Fully illustrated with contemporary photographs, maps and colour artwork, Air Combat conveys the full story behind these dramatic aviation duels.

Mit der Kamera an der Front-Als Kriegs
37401AVI2
German/English language book. The specialist literature includes extensive and well-illustrated publications about many German Jagdgeschwader and Jagdgruppen; however, one Gruppe which in terms of photos has been in a deep sleep for a long time is I.(J)/LG 2. Despite the fact that fighter pilots who later became well known, men like Ihlefeld, Geißhardt, Marseille, Harder, Strakeljahn and Kemethmüller, flew their first operational sorties and scored their first victories with the unit, the photographic material available to those with an interest in the unit is limited. Now, however, with Volume 3 in our Photographed by Soldiers series we can offer all fighter enthusiasts unique photo material. The foundation of this book is a collection of colour slides in the estate of a former war reporter who accompanied I.(J)/LG 2 from the Channel in 1941, through the Balkans to Russia. He was with the unit in Russia in 1942 when it was renamed I./JG 77. With JG 77, in the summer of 1942 he took the last photos showing the commander of the Geschwader, Maj. Gollob, and his aircraft. The colour images provide completely new and unexpected information about camouflage schemes, Staffel colours and emblems. To provide a complete picture of I.(J)/LG 2’s operational history, the colour images are supplemented by impressive and never before seen black-and-white photos from the estates of various pilots and technicians who served with the Gruppe.
