The Naval Aviation in the Adriatic 191
18019AVI
Bi-lingual English/Croatian text. This book describes the history of naval aviation in the Adriatic region, starting from the Austro-Hungarian Empire up until 1991 and the breakup of Yugoslavia. The authors trace the origins and development of the naval aviation in the region from their humble post-WW1 beginnings, their growth in the interwar period to the aerial operations during World War Two and focus on the unknown yet fascinating information on the 1941 April War, the operations of the Yugoslav Seaplane Squadron within the British RAF in Egypt in 1941 and 1943, and the actions of the Partisan seaplane fleet in 1943

The Aviation Historian Issue 25
TAH25AVI
In TAH25 we take a typically far-ranging approach, exploring military, civil and offbeat aviation. The military brief is fulfilled by articles on the Luftwaffe’s bombing capability in 1938 – a classic example of how “dodgy dossier” information can influence political decisions – and on the UK’s painful procurement of the F-4K/M Phantom. Ray Flude continues his three-part series on Axis plans to create internal air bridges in World War Two, with a chronicle of Japan’s attempt to fly a delegation to Berlin in 1943; illustrations include scale drawings and internal details of the Tachikawa Ki-77. We also examine the career of the Soviet Union’s Yakovlev Yak-28PP “SAM-jammer”, a little-known ECM variant of the Brewer strike bomber; and the RAF Far East Flight’s epic 1927–28 tour of Asia and Australia, recorded in the expedition’s log and illustrated with evocative photographs taken en route. Covering the civil aviation angle, we continue David H. Stringer’s account of how the Vickers Viscount was adopted with great enthusiasm and fanfare by three American airlines; we also examine Alan Cobham’s flight-refuelling experiments in 1938–40 using Handley Page Harrows. We tour the Channel islands in a BEA de Havilland Dragon Rapide, seen through the camera lens of the late John Stroud; and we reveal how a party of watermelons, painted with smiley faces, came to be strapped into the cabin seats of a de Havilland Heron and flown from Jordan to the UK in 1965.

X Planes 9 Dornier Do 335
28897AVI
The Dornier Do 335 was conceived as a high-speed, all-weather fighter, and represented the pinnacle of piston-engined aircraft design. The Do 335 was a big aircraft, weighing just over 10,000kg when laden with fuel, equipment, and pilot, yet powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 603 engines, it was capable of reaching a maximum speed of 750km/h at 6400 meters, making it the fastest piston engine aircraft produced in Germany during World War II. Some forty aircraft were built between late 1943 and the end of the war, and it was intended to deploy the type as a day fighter, bomber, night fighter, bad weather interceptor, and reconnaissance aircraft, all of which were intended to incorporate the latest armament, bomb sights, communications, and radar equipment, as well as an ejector seat.

The Sukhoi Su-27 : Russia''s Air%2
56377AVI
This detailed, illustrated look at the Russian Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft features complete discussions of its design, construction, and operational use, as well as all technical systems and weapons. Developed in the 1970s as a match for the American F-15 "Eagle," the aircraft remains one of the most important fighters in the current Russian arsenal, and has formed the basis for many variants including the Su-30, Su-34, and Su-35. Though larger than Russia's famed MiG-29, it is extremely maneuverable and considerably more powerful. The Su-27 can also fly at extremely high angles of attack, an ability it is fond of demonstrating at airshows, along with its legendary "Cobra" manoeuvre. The Su-27 remains in production, and nearly a dozen countries including China, India, and Vietnam currently operate this high-performance aircraft. The book is superbly illustrated with colour images, includes colour aircraft profiles displaying the colour schemes.
